The winners from our 23/24 awards evening

24 April 2024

Mickey Demetriou scooped three major awards at the Insure Life Alex All Together evening.

The big defender has proven a huge hit in his first year at Crewe Alexandra – scoring nine goals in his 51 appearances so far.

He was named Player of the Season, as voted for by supporters, and Players’ Player of the Season, after receiving the most nominations from his teammates.

And he was named The Railwaymen Podcast Player of the Year at the event, staged at Mornflake Stadium.

Demetriou said: "It's more than enough for me to know that I'm helping the lads and making a contribution on the pitch, but I'm very honoured to have won these awards and I appreciate them all.

"In particular, I'm proud to have won the Players' Player award. It’s the first time I’ve won it in my career and there are lots of players here who have had a great season.

"To receive the award from such an amazing set of lads means a lot to me. To have shared a changing room with them this season has been an absolute pleasure."

Top-scorer Elliott Nevitt, who was runner-up in the Player of the Season voting, won the Ornua Goal of the Season prize for his brilliant injury-time equaliser against Accrington Stanley in December.

Homegrown defender Lewis Billington was named Breakthrough Player of the Season after making 30 appearances and scoring one goal.

Calum Agius was awarded the Harold Finch Scholar of the Year trophy thanks to another impressive season of progress.

Lee Bell, his staff, and the full Railwaymen squad were among over 200 people who packed into the Wrights Lounge for an entertaining evening, during which guests enjoyed a pie and peas supper.
