Baker-Richardson: ‘I’m back in time to help the boys’

3 May 2024

Courtney Baker-Richardson says the opportunity to play at Wembley is a huge motivation for Crewe Alexandra.

The Railwaymen are preparing to face Doncaster Rovers in a two-legged Play-Off Semi-Final next week.

The first leg is at Mornflake Stadium on Monday (5.30pm) with the return leg at Eco-Power Stadium on Friday (8pm).

The winners will face either Crawley Town or MK Dons at the national stadium on May 19.

Baker-Richardson said: “We’ve got that sniff of being able to get up to the next league and that’s what we are looking at.

“Everyone wants to play at Wembley. It's the Mecca of football. I was there watching England and even that was a surreal experience, so to play there would be a memory for a lifetime.

“Doncaster’s run has been surprising but you can’t count anyone out. You have to give them a round of applause, they’ve been unbelievable.

“We’ve not had the best recent run but if you count us out it’ll be to your demise. I feel confident, the boys are confident, and we will go out there and try to get the job done. ”

Baker-Richardson has hit 10 goals in 24 starts this season, but he has missed the last six weeks through injury.

The big striker returned as a sub in the 1-1 draw at Colchester last weekend, and is now raring to go for the Play-Offs.

He added: “I’m happy that I’ve made it back in time; I’ve grafted hard to be in a situation where I can come and help the boys.

“I think there is purpose and meaning to the fact that I’m able to be in this position right now.”
